Flamingoes in Nakuru
Does anyone know the latest situation with with flamingoes in lake Nakuru? If not in Lake Nakuru then would it be worthwhile visiting Lake Elmenteita or Lake Bogoria to see them?2
There are still some in Nakuru - just not in the same numbers they were. I understand that situation isn't likely to change as the chemical make up of the water is shifting. It's still well worth a visit though. I found the pelicans to be the stars of the show there.Bogoria is a dead cert AFAIK and a beautiful location. The combination of flamingoes in the geysers is pretty amazing.
Can't say for Elemetia.
As regards the post above Nakuru is a popular park but you can easily find a private viewpoint to watch them at Bogoria (and it costs a fraction of the amont to get in.
BTW if you like birds then Lake Baringo (which is near Bogoria) holds some kind of record for the most species of birds spotted in 24 hours (though I can't remember the number). You will also find it very hard to not spot the hippo there.

Eva - Lake Natron is where the flamingos (mainly the Lesser ones) go to breed. Unfortunately my guide book does not mention when the breeding season is. Before shut-down there were a number of post concerning the flamingo numbers and Nakuru with the suggestion being that Baringo and lakes further north were attracting larger numbers. Hope this helps4
For Flamingos take lake Bogoria. I was there in November 2012. Lake Nakuru has so many other species of Birds but due to flooding many flamingos have left this lake. You can also visit a small lake near lake Naivasha with flamingos. I do not remember the name of this lake. Lake Elementaita has no flamingos if I am not mistaken. Lake Baringo is good for bird watching but do not expect any flamingo there. I wish you all the best as you prepare your journey.
