Port Douglas at Easter

Greetings All!

This upcoming Easter, my partner and I are heading to Port Douglas, (she's been before, I haven't). I was hoping for your input on things we MUST do/see while we're there. We've already planned a trip to the outer reef and to the rainforest, but are curious to know what else to do. Though funds aren't unlimited, we don't mind spending a littler more if it's worth it.

Many thanks in advance. Looking forward to your reply.

Hire a car and do a day trip to Cooktown.

Toad races in one of the shitty Port Douglas Hotels? To me PD is completely underwhelming

Cooktown is way too far for a day-trip RWW! The Rainforest is great, and certainly go as far as Cape Tribulation and walk a seriously tropical beach. Several indigenous tour offerings in the region too. Mossman Gorge is lovely, Palm Cove is too, and a drive up to the Atherton Tablelands is also rewarding.

If you're unlucky, Port Douglas can be subject to great loads of rain in April, so I trust your accommodation has a nice pool area. We like PD - two good pubs in the main street, and do have a sunset drink at the Combined Club down overlooking the marina. Walk up around the hill and check out millionaire's row ... nice farmers market in the park on the weekend.

So ... a minimum 270km each way - a minimum of eight hours driving ... hardly seems worth it, no matter how much you like driving RWW!
