WHERE IS THE GOATS... WHERE IS THE DONKEY TRAINS?Many time we trek in Annapunna and find delightful when we see sheperds going down with goat herds. It is very nice also to see the donkey trains with the bells ringing. We go last September and October and no goat herd and little bit donkey trains not much compare to trekking in past..Also where is into thin air ? is he still alive? I not seeing his post no more.

1haha...no goat herds huh!!!
goat meat "mutton" is the most sought after meat in nepal - specially in dashain festival
here are few possible explanations - for your reading amusement - don't hold me to it -
- if you are trekking in late sept or oct they are already bound to the cities on their "final" journey for dashain festival
- may be due to lack of available land (instead of traditional goat herders roaming the hills and trails) more goat farm are sprouting up across nepal for meeting more demand (with living standard rising in india - nepal supplies more food to india because they find better prices)
- or may be because lack of labor - more than 3 million nepali youth work overseas today - mostly in middle east - all them crazy construction happening there - where do yo think the cheap labor comes from - in nepal they now have labor shortage in villages harvesting rice because everyone left town to work overseas
(who knew sky scrapers in dubai and goat grazing in annapurna had any connection) ponder that ....haha...
as for lack donkey caravans you got me on that one - no conspiracy theory on it yet - i will keep you posted
when i did ebc this year there was no shortage of donkey and yak caravans - you are hiking the wrong mountain!!!
