What is the current situation with land border crossings from Nepal to Tibet? Is the border closed?
I am going to Nepal in August for three weeks and would quite like to visit Tibet if it were possible in the last week of my stay. I would have to get back to Kathmandu for my flight. Obviously, if the land borders are closed might not be doable - don't really want to catch a flight to Lhasa.
Would five-six days be enough to pop into Tibet, or should I save it and come back another time?
Thanks for opinions.

Foreigners need a Permit to visit Tibet, and must be with a tour guide and 4 other people of same nationality at present, though this rule may be relaxing. So you need a Chinese Visa and a TAR Permit, and its closed in March.2
If entering from Nepal, you need a special permit which includes the Chinese visa. Agencies in Nepal will get it for you. You need to ask about the border situation in July rather than worrying about the current situation now.4
The border is close for individual traveller but if you book a trip to lhasa they let you go from tibet to china.5
Currently, the Tibet Autonomous Region is closed to all foreign travelers. Until it reopens, it is impossible to say what the travel regulations for Tibet will be in 2013.
