A few questions about getting around tanzania
HiI have to get to Shinyanga and have some stuff to do there for a couple of weeks. Afterwards I want to go on safari and get to zanzibar, for maybe 2-3 weeks. I'm not really interested in climbing Kilimanjaro.
So questions.
What is the best way to get to Shinyanga? Should I fly to Mwanza? This sounds the most logical but when you consider I'll be flying home from zanzibar, should i get return flights from dar es salaam?
What kind of offers can I expect for safari? I presume the serengeti is the best place to go?
Is it possible to travel overland from Shinyanga to Dar es Salaam?
Think that's all for the moment. Very confused regarding flights etc
Thanks in advance for any repsonses

Hi there,It's possible to travel overland from Dar es Salaam-Shinyanga,up to 12 hours drive, (though a long journey),Serengeti is the best place, but it depends on the time of visit...better to take Northern Safari and Southern...all depends on your budget and time.
Thanks!

1. Flying to Mwanza would be the easiest. Not the cheapest.2. Serengeti and or Ngorongoro is very nice, yes. Costs depends on budget and time.
3. Possible but it can easily can take two days.

Thanks for the answers, very helpful! So if I'm leaving shinyanga looking for a safari would I bet better off starting from Mwanza or going to Arusha? Or they go from Shinyanga itself?
Also, how much of a pain in the ass (financially and time wise) would it be to try to get down to victoria falls and then back to zanzibar? A few hundred in internal flights I suppose?
If I;m going to Zanzibar overland is dar es salaam the only place to get a ferry from?

1. A safari from Mwanza is possible. Perhaps you can be dropped in Arusha? Where do you want to go on a safari?2. Dunno about prices but I (!) think it is a lot for a very touristy spot. No clue about prices. If you have enough time, there's an interesting trainride between Dar Es Salaam and a place near Lusaka (Zambia).
3. There might be ferries from Bagamoyo and Tanga as well. Check your LP.
