Kinsale accommodation -- bank holiday weekend??

We will be visiting Ireland (from Canada) in May/June. We think we'll be in the Cork area about May 25th and would need 2 nights accommodation. We like the idea of staying in Kinsale -- sounds like a great place to stay but we are having a problem finding accommodation there -- and we don't want it to be a 5-star rating. Is this also a bank holiday weekend? Would it be necessary to book ahead if this is the case or can we still take our chances with finding lodging the same day. We are basically looking for a room in a house.

You may have to opt for BnB. There is not a public holiday at the end of May but there is one on the first Monday in June. Kinsale is popular and doesn't have a huge amount of accom. If I was you, I'd book ahead.

Search goireland.com for options. There appears to be some for less than EUR75 a night around that time.

outside Cork city close to the N40 on the Kinsale road roundabout
there is a "Travelodge" hotel from E 39.00 ( NON-REFUNDABLE )
see....TRAVELODGE.IE / CORK
Kinsale town is a 25 minute drive away.

Is this also a bank holiday weekend
It is an English bank holiday weekend and also the start of an English school holiday week, so that could explain the pressure on the accommodation that week. It also has a reputation as a period of particularly good weather, (though it cannot be relied upon) so a lot of Irish like to go away on weekends that time of year. I have found whole towns booked up in some parts of Ireland on weekends that time of year, if they are well-known tourist spots, but if you go to less well-known areas you find there is plenty of accommodation to be had.

Thanks all for the input. It looks like we'll spend 2 nights in Cork and will possibly use AIRBNB for the booking. We've found a couple of places in Cork that would work for us and give us time to explore the area.
