bus and train fares ireland

hi there
I am going to travel Ireland and Nth Irl for 3 weeks, by bus and train
my itinerary is: dublin belfast derry sligo westport galway limerick killarney cork waterford kilkenny

does anybody knows if a bus pass or bus&train pass is better than buying separate tickets?

where can I find ticket fares per journey (not on the official irish bus or train site!!)

thank you for you time, Joan

Welcome to TT.

Not sure what your aversion is to official sites. They will give you the best indication of cost based on when you are travelling as a comparison to buying any kind of joint tkt.

Part of the problem is that for things like dublin to belfast and galway there are cheap tkts.

The Emerald Pass is what you want want but its value depends on how much you travel. At GBP275 for 15 days out of 30 it might be steep depending on how much you are going to travel. If you are only going to Belfast in the north then here is other options which include just the Republic.

If you mean you can't find the prices on the official sites, what you need to do is pretend to book a ticket. The price will come up before you have to enter any payment details.

Iarnrod Eireann is the Irish train website. I'm pretty sure that you can't buy a train pass but you might be able to have a multi-trip. The problem is that most train routes in Ireland go through Dublin. This means that during your planned trip you could go through Dublin three or four times.

There are train passes (travel for five days out of 15 etc) and the only reason to go back through Dublin is if going from the 'Heuston' lines to the 'Connolly' lines. It would take a special person to have to go back through Dublin three or four times.

anonxxx,
I plan on doing a similar trip in July but going the opposite way. According to the research I did (on the official websites) the majority of the bus tickets cost around €20 (give or take a euro or two). All up from Dublin - Wicklow - Tramore - Cork - Galway - Achill - Donegal - Belfast should cost me around €140 or so. So check that against the bus passes advertised on the website. Hope that helps a bit.
