Latacunga Budget Accommodation on Thursdays

I read that all the hotels in Latacunga get booked up on both Wednesdays and Thursdays because people flood the city in order to see the Siquisli market on Thursday morning. Unfortunately, we were planning on going tomorrow (Thursday) to Latacunga, and we will probably not arrive until afternoon because we are coming from Otavalo. Does anyone know what our chances are of finding budget accommodations in Latacunga on Thursday? Are we better off just staying in Otavalo another day, or going to a different place? Thanks in advance for your advice!

We stayed there on a Thursday without any difficulty, although I had phoned ahead one day before - any chance you can do this from Otavalo? Are you planning to go to the Saquisilí market? - you don't say. I ask because if you have the opportunity to go, GO. It is mesmerizing:

You need to be there early (we stayed in Saquisilí the night before after arriving from Chugchilán, the week after we first stayed in Latacunga) but it is truly a world apart.

Thanks! We ended up being able to make reservations at Hostal Tiana by email the night before, so it was all good. We wanted to be able to see the market, but I think the timing won't work out for us because we need to get on to Cuenca. :(
