From India to Sri Lanka

Hi everybody,
I read it somewhere that you are not allowed to enter india again within 2 months after you left. Is it correct? Does that mean that if I want to go to Sri Lanka from india for a few weeks, afterwards I cannot go back? Or a multiple entry visa can answer any query?
As I am reading it again it seems as if my question does not make much sense... :-)
