Has Kashgar old city almost demolished?

I'm planning to visit Kashgar/Yarkand/Tashkurgan around July.
But I've seen some reports that most of Kashgar old city is being demolished...
I've seen images from the old city and it had been one of the place I've wanted to go....Has anyone been to Kashgar recently?
Is it still attactive to visit or too "modernized"?
Or could anyone recommend any Kashgar-like city in Xinjiang or outside China?
I have deep interest in Islamic culture and I've been to Turkey, Iran, Uzbekistan, Jordan and Israel.

Parts of Kashgar's old city are still there, but each time I go back less and less is there. Yarkand and Kargalichk both still have "old towns" that are worth a look. There are also areas around Kashgar that are very rewarding, but you'll need to explore a little and seek them out.

kashgar old town is still great , most parts of the old town is rebuilt with same old style, but sunday market , and Sunday animals market is also the best places to see , kashgar old town is still attractive ,
there is also old town , old tombs and mosques in Yarkand as well , there is no similar city to kashgar within xinjiang ,kashgar is only place that best preserved Islamic culture and architecture still exist ,
cheers

No, only one of the five Old Town sections was torn down. It is still a wonderful walk through the narrow allies visiting homes and seeing some of the home workshops with hand made goods.
It is one of my favorite places to visit and I have travelled all through China for the past 25 years having been there over 50 times.

Kashgar old town (ancient city ) still exist and it is still great experance to visit , as I know people who want travel to kashgar not only kashgar old town but also Appak Hoja tomb which is the most popular in Centural asia , biggist mosque in China , biggest market in Centural asia as well , if you still want real life very old culture and ancient life I suggest to visit Yarkan old which is only 200kn from kashgar ,

Thanks for many advice, according to this map (http://ogleearth.com/2012/02/the-last-days-of-old-kashgar-an-update/) 2/3 of the old city has been demolished but I still have deep interest in Uyghur culture, Bazaars and Hospiable people(I heard Uyghur people are so).
I have one more question, If I to visit Karakul lake is there local bus to Kashgar or to Tashkurgan?
