@jillback: There used to be some long and detailed threads about what are the requirements for foreigners driving in China in the Asia North East Asia branch but I don't know if they keep being available so if you can't find them, I'd suggest to ask about those requirements in the quoted branch. I'm pretty sure this forum's China experts will provide you the relevant details.16
Thanks so much! We have been planning this trip for last 6 months:) and we can get all permissions for car and ourselves. We were going to leave now in April 2013 but we ran out of time for two permissions and work reasons have made us decide to go later in the year.I was wondering if anyone had travelled this rout in aug to dec? And what it was like ? Thanks again for speedy reply!
