Kingston should be a good place to hit - Fort Henry probably has a few things going on. Crysler's Farm , at Upper Canada Village, probably does as well - I know when I was in middle school, we went there for reenactments every year.

If you're looking for non-war of 1812 related things to do, I highly recommend a boat tour to Boldt Castle Boldt Castle, as well as stopping along the Rideau Canal to watch boats go through - Merrickville has a lock set, and it's a neat little artist village.

Since this is 2013, you missed the 1812 re-enactments already. Those happened in 2012!
It was a bicentennial, in other words 150 years after the fact!

Spending a day or two in Kingston is good idea; it's a nice place. However, the 1000 Islands boat tours are better out of Gananoque, which is about half an hour east of Kingston.

From Kingston, drive down Hwy 33 through Bath to the ferry and cross over into Prince Edward County. It's a beautiful part of the province in a pastoral kind of way: orchards, wineries, quaint towns, great restaurants, and also beaches.

You can then drive up from Brighton to Peterborough and head north to explore the Kawarthas, an expanse of lakes, forests, cottages, and nice towns.

While I think most 1812 celebrations will be over, there are always historical things going on at Fort Henry and Upper Canada Village (closer to Cornwall.)

re,, the re enactments i have attended more than once the 1812 re enactment at PORT ROWAN , ontario, , it is don e in september at backhus mill which is last surviving mill from that era. the mill is located in a magnificent campground park setting near port rowan very well done lots of re enactors who camp over just like back then for the week end, plenty of camp trailer sites around port rowan as an added bon u s there is about 28km away at port burwell the only canadian submarine you can view just moved to port burwell

turns out there will be a re-enactment of the Battle of Crysler's Farm this coming July 13-14, next door to Upper Canada Village. Have a look at visit1000islands.com for more events.

Rent a canoe in Merrickville and paddle along the Rideau Canal for a bit, hike some of the Rideau Trail, watch the huge boats go through one of the Seaway locks (Iroquois, Eisenhower, Beauharnois), rent a bike in Brockville and cycle along the Thousand Islands Parkway, camp at Charleston Lake and rent a canoe again to commune with the loons (especially nice at a canoe-in campsite), buy the world's best cheddar cheese in Wilton. Agree Kingston and Prince Edward County are worth a visit.

Or you could stay till August 2-3 and head to Maxville for the Glengarry Highland Games, should massed pipe bands and caber-tossing strike your fancy.

It is the War of 1812, but it lasted until 1814. That is why there are re-enactments and other activities beyond 2012.
