Beginner-Intermediate Surf Bali or Elsewhere

Hi,

The search still isn't working but last I checked I couldn't quite find what I was looking for. We will be in Jakarta in the middle of July and are looking for somewhere in Indo to surf. We have spent a year in Aus and a week at a surf camp in Nicaragua surfing, but would rate ourselves almost intermediate. We can get up and ride smaller to medium waves on a 6'6's and up.

In my research I see that Kuta is the place for learning, but we have already been there and don't want to go again. I have read that Canggu or Medewi might be our spot to rent and have fun for a week? What about Kuta on Lombok? We are not awesome and are more looking for a place to get up and ride and have some easy fun. Based on our ability to wipeout once and a while, beach breaks are probably best.

We are willing to go anywhere in Indo, as long as we can rent a board and stay for mid-low budget and not boat access surfing.

Thanks in advance,

Vs

Since we are beginner surfers and just had a couple of lessons in Kuta we can't say from our own experience where you should go as an intermediate surfer.

But that said, we did see what looked like intermediate surfers in Balangan beach and Padang Padang beach. Both beaches have great accommodation options from budget to mid-range. I know there are some surf camps organized here so you can expect to be able to hire a board etc. Dreamland is also an option but we find it the less characterfull beaches in that area.

Probably depending on the time of day and year Medewi beach looked like a place for more advanced surfers. When we were there in april the place was deserted except for one diehard surfer cathching the waves. You can find nice accommodation and a bigger surf crowd (but not as big as the south of bali) at Balian beach.

I hope I have been of some help! good luck!
