Berlin Hbf Station Inquiry

Hello guys!

I wanted to know if you think it is possible to get from the S-Bahn part of Hbf to Hbf Tief in just 10 minutes.

Thanks for your help!

Yes it is possible. You can do it easily in 3 minutes if you know the way. For a stranger I would calculate 5 minutes. It's almost impossible for a stranger to buy any tickets or food in that time. In addition to the moving stairs (you will have to go down from the 2nd upper floor to the 2nd underground floor = 4 stairs down) there are normal lifts/elevators which bring you down to either platform 3/4 or 5/6 directly from the S-Bahn platform. Be careful as the two lifts go to different platforms(3/4 or 5/6)!!! If you have to go to platform 1,2,7 or 8 you can leave the lift at the 1st underground floor and go down the last leg by moving stairs. You can use both lifts for this.
If there is no line up(because of many bikes, wheel chairs etc) the lift is the fastest way.

Thw station looks a bit complicated, but the general principle is quite simple.

There is one set of railway tracks in the basement (tracks 1 to 8) and one on the roof (tracks 11 to 14 and two S-Bahn-tracks). In between there are three distribution levels designed to accomodate plenty of shopping area.

To navigate between the levels there are stairs, escalators and elevators. Elevators are for the experts, you need to know ehat youre doing and you need some nerves in case theyve just left. Since they serve several levels they need their time to come back.

So go for the escalators with luggage or stairs without. You can move downward three levels without looking where to go. Then you have to look which platform you need. There are the occasional info screens, but it is better to look up that information before on www.bahn.de or look onto your reservation in case you have one. Finding tracks 3/4 and 5/6 is straightforward, however access to tracks 1/2 and 7/8 is a bit hidden.

Normally 3 to 5 minutes will do. Just dont try to get a paper and a burger and you will be fine if your incoming train is on time.
