There is a thousand bars serving beers from around the globe, just Google " English Pubs Beer New York" and a 100 sites come up. Dont know about the old style beer taps though...

Wouldn't the taps they have in England still be in England?

You should ask this question on Chowhound. They are more likely to know.

SoloHobo; apparently there is a different type of tap that is used in some bars in England (more like a pump) which I have heard gives a nicer drink.

It is basically the difference between Keg ale and Cask ale. A Keg uses a simple tap (a la most beers and bars in US, and around the world) and the beer is fed into the glass using pressurised gas, normally carbon dioxide. Cask ales use a more traditional method without any external help or gas, have much longer handles and the beer is fed into the glass using a type of pump and the brute force of the barman/woman. Many places advertise Cask ales, but are actually keg fed. The giveway is the long pump handle and the fact that the server has to be constantly pulling the handle, rather than flicking the tap on/off as for keg beers.

((note: I think that is approximately correct, but some of the details might be slightly off. But it should help you identify the type of beer pump you are looking for))

To answer your question, sadly i don't know (i only arrived in NYC a week ago, and haven't yet starting exploring British/Irish bars), but if you find any, please let me know!

I can vouch for the Spotted Pig and the Blind Tiger, mentioned in this old NY Times article. And I'll second the chowhound suggestion above, and add a yelp.

Almost all/lots of bars in Manhattan have a pull pump beer, even if it is only something like Brooklyn or Blue Moon (the latter is made by Coors), neither of which I would go out of my way for. A bit of wandering, even in the heart of Midtown, will produce some better hand pulled beers like Harvest Trail or Samuel Adams.

To escape the gf's shopping or once I have picked up three pairs of Levis from Macy's in Herald Sq I have more than once gone to a place I can't remember the name of - it is on 32nd, less than a block east of Broadway (although it could be 30th or 31st, sorry, it is just past some XXX video shops). It is not coming up on yelp or such as a name I recognise or pic that looks familiar.

It is worth noting that searching for an 'English bar' in search of hand pulled beers is not the best way to find hand pulled beers. Most pubs and all Irish pubs will have a selection.

IMO the Seppo small brew, craft ale market is the best in the world although I say that living in Dublin and previously London and Australia.

If you are just getting into it, and it sounds like you are, start with Sam Adams stuff like their seasonal, and move on from there.

That would be Old Navy which has entrance on 34 and 33rd between 7th and Bway (XXX shops are gone).

There's also some "Irish pubs" on that block.

I just went for a wander on google map's streetview thing and came up with nothing. Losing pub's is not unusual for me, losing one that I have only had a couple of beers in is. Not the porn shops, the underground garage, not the pub.

Its grand though. I'm back in August. I'll find it then!! Once I buy my Levis.

I work on 7th an 32nd and can tell you there are no longer any porn shops or pubs on 32nd. There are 3 Irish pubs (of a sort) on 33rd. "Stout", "Blarney Rock" and "Feile".

Tir Na Nog is on 8th Avenue.
