Quiet family beach holiday near Nice or Barcelona - where best?
HiWe are taking our 2-year-old abroad for the first time in early June. It will either be near Nice or near Barcelona (mainly due to cheaper flights).
We want a very short transfer time so somewhere like Antibes or Villefranche-sur-mer, which we can get to quickly on the train from the airport. Rather not be in a car as no child car seat. I know there are beach resorts near Barcelona which can be easily reached by train too.
Where has a lovely child-friendly beach, a reasonable choice of lunch restaurants/cafes, a selection of self-catering accommodation and is a short train ride from Barcelona or Nice airport please? Quiet night life preferred and even better if there is an 'old town'!
Thank you

Antibes is my favourite town in the Nice area and does have a nice little beach. But it is not really what I would think of as a beach destination. Jaun les Pins, next door to Antibes would better fit that bill perhaps. Antibes is much more than just a beach.http://www.independent.co.uk/travel/europe/antibes-and-juanlespins-a-true-taste-of-two-towns-2212327.html
For a place to stay have a look at this: http://www.studiosperlantibes.com/eng/introduction.asp I stayed there for 2 months once and was quite happy with it. They are student flats in the school year but rented to tourists in the summer months. Right on the main square of town. Bus at door and train a short walk away.

How about Sitges, near Barcelona. Unfortunately there is no direct train connection between the airport and Sitges. You'll have to change trains in El Prat de Llobregat. On the other hand it has everything you are looking for: nice beach, old town and lots of restaurants, bars and café's6
Ah Beigey4, diplomacy, diplomacy.I believe there is a bus directly from the Airport. It is not a long journey at all but the express rather than the 'local' bus is probably better. It is #250 and stops at both terminals but only at the Train Station in Antibes. The slower bus stops in 3 places (I think) in Antibes and you have to walk out of the terminal to the road to catch it.
Express bus, 8E per person, so 32E return for 2 adults (2 year old free). DIYtaxis.com is about 80E return door to door. Regular taxi about 65E one way.

thanks everyone - short message yesterday was due to typing on a tiny phone, sorry.Been to Sitges and didnt feel like a family resort, thanks tho.
Only place I can get to from Bristol in that list is Olbia, neckervd, but thanks. The flight would be longer and is more expensive.
I think we'll try Juan les Pins :-)

I like Castelldefels. Very close to Barcelona in the direction of Sitges. Long, wide, lovely beach. Some nice restaurants, very quiet and chilled, but close to BCN if you fancy something more.
