8days early October
Hello all,Me and 3 fellow photographers are planning on going to Iceland in October (4-12) to capture the aurora as well as the beautiful Icelandic landscape. We specialize in Night photography so we would like to know what are the best locations to capture the aurora. A location with nice landscape and visible aurora would be a plus.
We would also like to know bout transportation during October. We read that there are roads that get closed due to bad weather.
If we were to go around different spots to capture the aurora would it be possible during October?
I read somewhere that there is a volcanic mountain where the aurora is also visible from it. Is there a safe accessible route to the volcano that people usually take?
Thanks alot for your help, and looking forward to any advice you can give us. If people would leave us contact emails to contact them privately to get more details that would be great as well
Appreciated!!!

The highland roads in the interior largely close down during October. However the main roads that connect where people live are largely open year round, though can be briefly closed due to heavy snow.If we were to go around different spots to capture the aurora would it be possible during October?
Yes, though seeing aurora can never be promised. Your main impediment to seeing aurora is clouds. Iceland is a cloudy place. Spring is probably more promising than autumn, for nicer snow conditions and less cloud.I read somewhere that there is a volcanic mountain where the aurora is also visible from it.
That doesn't reduce the options very much because just about all mountains in Iceland are volcanic, and aurora can be seen from any mountain. All you need is an absence of clouds, not too much light pollution, and the aurora being "on". A poster on this forum drew attention to her blog recently, where she sets out issues in detail on northern lights hunting and photography. I recommend it
