1 week in Vietnam
My wife and I are planning to spend a week in Vietnam at the beginning of April 2014 and would like some advice on where would be good to go.We would like to visit a city but ideally would also like to see some natural beauty as well so a city to experience a bit of the hustle and bustle, try the food and drink and be able to transit to somewhere relitively close by for some non city fun.
We have a normal budget (if there is such a thing).
Any suggestions will be a great help.

Hi,for a week, I would recommend flying into Hanoi and then going to Halong Bay for a couple of days to do a junk boat trip. If you wanted to go further north you could go to Sapa too.

So Hue - Hoian - Danang are great for you. You can see some natural beauty like: Hai Van pass, Lang Co beach, Cu Lao Cham island... enjoy food, learn history and easily transit to each other place.3
Hello,For one week, you could do something interesting such as below:
Day 1: Arrival Hanoi and visite Hanoi capital city and it's vestiges
Day 2: Hanoi - Halong Bay. Overnight on boat
Day 3: Halong - Tam Coc - Hoa Lu ( Old captial of Vietnam)
Day 4: Ninh Binh and its arround
Day 5: Ninh Binh - Maichau ( west part of Vietnam, country of the white Thais ethnic group) and stay overnight with local people on their stilt-house.
Day 6: Maichau - Hanoi - --> transfer to the airport to flight back home.
If you do need any help from me, i am aready!
Have a nice day!

^ @#3 is similar to what I would recommend. Stay North and travel within a short radius of your landing base. Ninh Binh is picturesque.5
For us #3 is just about right. But,
Stay another night in Ha noi, rather than go to Ha Long Bay.
The most enchanting City we've visited, and northern Vietnam is a delight.

#3 is good. Ninh Binh is lovely for a few days riding around soaking up the countryside.Or how about Hoi An? The market area has lots of great local food. The beach is a cycle ride from the town. It's not as hectic as a big city, but has Marble Mountain close by. Also My Son, though I wouldn't recommend the trip. The river side is hectic at rush hour with locals flying back and forth.

In one week stay North. Hoi An would blow a day or two getting from A -B, especially on land. Even by plane 1 hour to Hanoi airport, 1 hour wait (maybe more if flight delayed), over 1 hour flight to Da Nang , 30 mins at airport, nearly one hour to hotel in Hoi An. After all that repeat for going back.9
Mooslie - I meant Hoi An for the week. So A is home and B is Hoi An. So an extra 1 hour really isn't much to fly into De Nang. Plenty to see around there. We had some friends do just that when we were there and they've had other friends go out and do the same trip for a week's break.
