Visa help please for a Brit?Hi all.............I seem to read contradicting ways of how i go about applying for a visa?
My wife and myself want to visit moscow for a few days in the next few months. We are both British with British passports. Here's what i think you need to do, can someone please correct me if im wrong.............
1. Book hotel online and they will email me back a confirmation and an invite
2. Download and print visa application form, fill out and post to the embassy in London along with confirmation and invite from hotel as well as passport, photo and cheque
3. once recieved back (hopefully) i am able to book my flights?
4. When i arrive at my hotel they will register me that i have arrived?
Do they ever turn you down for a visa? As the hotel i book will be non refundable?
Any other tips advice good/easy/cheap ways of applying etc would be greatly appreciated............Good health to you all..............Thanks in advance......

11; Strictly speaking yes, but you can get the required support documents without booking anything, I've done this myself on many occasions. You don't need to book or stay in a hotel.
2; No that's not correct, you complete the form online then print it off, hand completed forms are not accepted. You cannot send this directly to the embassy, you must send it to the official processing agents VFS.
3; Up to you but you could book now without getting your visas first, usually cheaper to book as further ahead as possible.
4; Yes, when arrive in Russia you'll be given a migration card, just a bit of paper, should be completed by the passport control official but at some airport terminals you are still required to complete it. Do not lose this, the hotel needs this with your passport to register you, also you need this to leave the country.
Yes people can be refused but this is very rare, people who apply for multiple visas within a short space of time have reported problems, personally speaking never had a problem, visa turn around is like clockwork taking under two weeks.

2Thanks for the reply............Can you also recommend a hotel? I was kind of hoping around the £80/100 a night mark...............Is it important to be in the centre or more outwards as long as its near a tube station? Not going for anything other than the normal touristy sightseeing things so nnot much preference as to location..........once again thanks..........

3Usually if staying in a hotel I go for a Hilton, normally way above your budget but I think they must be having a sale with rooms a little over £86 at the moment Hilton Moscow Leningradskaya http://www.booking.com/hotel/ru/hilton-moscow-leningradskaya.en-gb.html?aid=303948;label=moscow-ImpD0okMSVpyGc6u_yg5SwS12581595861%3Apl%3Ata%3Ap1400%3Ap2%3Aac%3Aap1t1%3Aneg;sid=3e474784d5e6cc2ef3f2cfc2046538d1;dcid=1;checkin=2013-04-07;checkout=2013-04-08;srfid=83a2e24c2c64de0511be5d4dd3bc282d26edd783X59 nearer the centre the better I'd say but at the end of the day it's what you can afford.
