Croatia itineraryHi there,
I'm planning to travel around Croatia and Slovenia for 1-2 weeks in late July or August as I have a long summer holiday from work. My vague idea at the moment is to do something like:
Dubrovnik 2-3 nights
Plitvice national park, 1 night
Zagreb 2-3 nights
Ljubljana 2-3 nights
Bled 1-2 nights
I might go to Split too after Dubrovnik but I'm not sure yet. I would be travelling between locations by bus or train.
I have never travelled alone before or done any sort of trip like this so I am a total novice! Any tips would be gratefully received. Is there anything I'm obviously omitting, or anything on my list I should leave out?

1I would probably skip Zagreb and spend more time on the coast of Croatia traveling from Dubrovnik (one whole day) to Split (half day might be enough to see Diocletian's palace) to Trojir (a day) to Krka National Park (spend the day and sleep in Zadar) to Zadar to Plitvice Lakes and then just a night in Zagreb and the train to Ljubljana. Two nights there is enough assuming that you have a half day on either side.
If you don't make stops, the trip from Dubrovnik to Plitvice Lakes is VERY long.

3Bus drive from Dubrovnik to Plitvice can take over nine hours, so it would be nice to split your time. I would suggest Šibenik, Split or Zadar as a stopover. You can scrap one day from Ljubljana, it is not a big city. Or even Zagreb. Two nights should or could be enough there.
Very good itinerary overall. I hope you are aware of the fact that you will be coming in Croatia at the peak of tourist season. Enjoy your trip :)

4Thanks for the replies everyone. I don't want to skip Zagreb altogether but maybe I could spend only 1-2 nights there. I could probably only add one more destination though - should I go for Split or Zadar/Krka? I'll need to do a bit more research.
One less day in Ljubljana too then - any of these destinations I should be trying to spend more time in? I know it's the height of tourist season but it's the only time I can go.

5Since you are going to Plitvice, I don't think it makes sense to see more waterfalls and water formations. Unless you are really into it, of course. Šibenik is certianly a better base than Zadar for Krka.
Are you a sea lover? You need to leave some time for swimming, sunbathing and such... Did you consider visiting Kornati NP, btw? Again, your base should be Zadar or Šibenik.
Btw, use buses only for your routes (at least in Croatia).
Zadar vs Split vs Šibenik? Not much to seperate between these three IMO. Split is the biggest which has some advantages (the best nightlife), but the old towns in Zadar and Šibenik are nicer. Split probably has the beast beach(es), but all 3 are underwhelming in that department. Culturally/historically, they are pretty even.
