Mount Meru - March 2013

I'll be backpacking solo in Tanzania in February/March and am currently planning on being around Arusha/Moshi the first two weeks of March to hopefully join up with a group and climb Mt. Meru. My plan was to sort it out once I got there but thought I would make a post here in case others are also thinking about doing a climb at this time. I'm hoping to keep costs under $500 USD (the lower the better :) )

I'd also be interesting in joining others to do a safari but my budget is pretty tight so I'm not sure how feasible it will be.

PM me if anyone else is looking for extra people to make/join a group and cut costs. I'm female, Canadian, late 20s...

Thanks!

Hey,

I'm sorry I will climb Mt. Meru before this date but I can inform you about climbing with a budget.
The fees you have to pay to the Nationalpark are:
3days-climb: 165 USD
4days-climb: 220 USD
Then you have to add the payment to the ranger, which is per group 15USD a day.
And if you need porters, you have to pay them and their nationalparkentrance as well.
Also you have to get transport to and from the place where you start.
A taxi from Arusha will be about 90 000TZS, but if you are alone you could also try to get there with a motorbike from Usa river.
For Mt. Meru you don't have to climb with a company!

Hope this information helps..
