1"why pay a fee when you can get for free."
Convenience is one reason! More "bank owned pay for withdrawal" ATM's available, often only short walk from your hotel. A fee of 150 baht is about $5 AU or US.
Many Aeon ATM's stand alone. With bank ATM's the parent bank is often nearby. If a tourist only has one debit card for his expenses and that orphan Aeon ATM does not return the card - what do you do then? But if you lose a card in a bank ATM when the parent bank is open one of the clerks can retrieve that card!
