Quick Overnight Recommendations out of Addis?
I'll be tagging along w/my spouse on a business trip to Addis Ababa in early Feb. for just a few nights and would love to take a quick day trip or single overnight. Any recommendations about where to go (or local tour companies) for such a limited amount of time?1
Try this PDF, It is a list of 21 day/overnight trips and looks like it has been really thoroughly compiled.http://cf.owen.org/wp-content/uploads/ethiopia-heritage-trips-from-addis.pdf

You could take the morning flight to Lalibela, Ethiopia's top tourist attraction. Spend a day in Lalibela and then take the next day morning flight back to Addis.3
Quite expensive though - I check yesterday and it was AU$360 return to Lalibela.4
I booked the tickets in the Ethiopian Airlines office in Addis and I got a one way ticket to Lalibela for about US$50.6
Lalibela deserves more than an overnight trip IMO.You should check out Ambo and the Wenchi Crater Lake a couple of hours west of Addis. One of my highlights from Ethiopia and not many people seem to venture out there. Check my blog for some pictures if you like http://www.travelblog.org/Africa/Ethiopia/Addis-Ababa-Region/Addis-Ababa/blog-715303.html

Thanks! I'd thought about Lalibela but am not sure I'll have enough lead time to buy a ticket in-country. (I literally only have 3 days in Ethiopia before we have to hop over to Uganda.) Might play it by ear and see what I can do at the airport upon arrival. Thanks Emma33 and Jonzy85 for the links; I'll definitely check them out and come up with a plan!8
Hi again,Not sure if you will be checking back on your post but I wanted to recommend the place I have been staying at for the past five days. It's in bishoftu which is about one hour south of addis, so a good overnight trip. I am staying on one of the lakes here at a budget place called salayish lodge. Very peaceful, in gardens on a lake, simple huts but v quiet. The view over the surrounding countryside from one of the rooms they have here is gorgeous, I got some wonderful sunrise photos. I would recommend this place for an overnight from addis.
One other place that has been highly recommended, although I have not been there yet is the ethio-German lodge, a few hours north of addis on the edge of the blue nile gorge. Bring a warm blanket though, or sleeping bag, it is beatiful but cold!
Happy travels!
