HAWAII & LA 30TH BIRTHDAY ?????? HELLLP
Hi thereI am planning my 3oth birthday in September, I am I deally looking for a travelling experience of a lifetime as its my 30th without it breaking my bank. At the moment im torn between two places. I have about 2/3 weeks wich i will split.
I am looking for the WOw factor amazing beaches, snorkelling trips, busy and quiet beaches not ones surrounded by high resorts.
we will rent a car. Flights are fine coming from London just need to know more about what to expect once im there.
1) Singapore and PhilIppines.
2) Los Angelas ad Hawaii.
I am looking for peoples opinions/advice on these places to help make my decision.
my questions are :
- Where in Hawaii can i get that 'Hawaii feeling' and WOW factor?
- Which are the most amazing / must see beaches where I can spend my birthday ?
- Can i enjoy Hawaii without spending a fortune ?
- Do you recommend LA ? if so how long for ?
Any advise would be appreiciated.
thank you x

I'm going to address just this question. If you are looking for that jaw-dropping, once-in-a-lifetime beach experience, then LA isn't it. This is the beach at Santa Monica, for instance. Great for fun-in-the-sun, but doesn't seem to be what you are after. Other LA area beaches will be rather similar. Beaches in California are public property, so you don't find private beaches owned by some resort. You also won't find tropical waters, suitable for snorkeling. Water temperature in September, the warmest time, runs around 18-20° in the LA area.
There is a lot of other stuff to see and do in LA; it just depends on whether it's the kinds of stuff you want to see and do.

without it breaking my bank.
If this is your criterion then it will be a lot cheaper to head to the Philippines. Singapore is expensive and sterile (WOW-less). LA and Hawaii moderately expensive and no WOW factor either. Now don't get me wrong, I just returned from West coast US and I liked it a lot but it didn't get me super excited.Philippines: google Boracay islands. I think that will get your juices going.
Good luck!

Oh and Kauai is definitely low rise, no hotels there over 3 stories, with the exception of the Marriott in Lihue, which has a grandfather clause. By law, no building can be taller than a coconut tree.
