Malaria in Burkina Faso in February
I read the information in the LP guidebook and several web sites, but it would be helpful to get some info from people who actually visited Burkina FasoI would like to ask for advice about malaria in Burkina Faso and if it is possible (or necessary) to buy anti-malaria tablets in Ouaga. I read that it is the dry season in February, so the risk should be lower, but most health related web sites consider Burkina Faso a high risk country. We want to travel around in February and possibly do hitch hiking and camping (maybe in rural areas).
Do you think that in this case we should definitely take anti-malaria tablets or it is enough to have an anti-malaria emergency kit. If yes, can we buy anti-malaria tablets in Ouaga and are they cheaper than, say, in Germany?

If you are not someone who is experiences with life in malaria infested areas, I would advise you to take prophilaxis and not risk it. Better to get it in the West. In Burkina they mostly have medication that can be used to treat but not prevent malaria.I would not risk it. Other people on this forum will be telling you the same.
Burkina is a high risk area for malaria.

I am not very experienced with life in malaria infested areas (except for a trip in Thailand), but I read conflicting opinions about anti malaria tablets and their use for prophilaxis, so it was important for me to assess the risk during the dry season.
Basically, I am trying to choose between taking prophilaxis and having an anti-malaria emergency kit only (in both cases mefloquine). I will travel in Ouaga and maybe do some hitch hiking and camping (possibly in rural areas). In all cases, I will be using repellents to try to avoid mosquito bites.

Vorbeugung mit Medikamenten empfohlen (Chemoprophylaxe): ganzjährig landesweit einschließlich der Städte
