do I need a transit visa?
Hi,I am flying into Almaty and then plan to take land transportation to Kyrgyzstan. I will travel in Kyrgyzstan for a month. Do I need to arrange a transit visa before I leave the USA? If I have no bus or train ticket from Almaty to Kyrgyzstan when I arrive in Almaty will I have trouble getting the transit visa?
Any hints on flights from Seattle to Almaty or Seattle to Bishkek?
Any hints on ground transportation fro Almaty to Kyrgyzstan?
Thanks,
Lynn

You will always have to change planes . KLM flies Seatle -Amsterdam, Amsterdam- Almaty. Then you have to take a bus or taxi to Bishkek and officially you still need a transit visa. You can fly Aeroflot. Seatle -New York, New -York- Moskou, Moskou -Bishkek. In that case you do not need a visa at all. The flight is cheaper but may be less conmfortable.

Get your transit visa in the US so that you're not denied boarding by the airline that takes you to Almaty.According to the MFA Rules of entry, stay and departure for foreigners, to get a transit visa you need a visa for the destination country, so as long as you can demonstrate that you will exit KZ into KG, you should have no trouble with the consulate.
The options for ground transport between Almaty and KG are marshrutkas, buses and shared taxis. Some of these will take you across the border, others require you to change at the border. It's a very popular route, so you shouldn't find any shortage of transport.

If you go through Moscow and stay there for over 24 hours or if you need to change airport/terminal, you'll need a Russian transit visa as well.As for flights from Seattle to Bishkek, try Turkish Airlines. Turkish Airlines is a star alliance partner with United Airlines and will have flights directly to Bishkek via Istanbul.

I have a similar question. Planning to fly to Almaty, then exit to Kyrgyzstan (where I don't need a visa for) and then fly back from China (for which I have a visa). Will I have trouble arranging a transit visa for KZH as I won't have any registered transport to the Kyrgyz border, will just hop on a bus; nor will I have a Kyrgyz visa as you don't need that.
