cuba and kidsHi,
Just got back from an amazing 2 week bike trip to Cuba. We biked from Matanzas to Vinales via Las Terrazas, Soroa, San Diego de las Banos and absolutely loved it. (Thanks to all of you who gave me advice pre-trip!). The people and geography are both so beautiful. I would like to return for about four months Jan - April with my husband and kids. We are Canadian and someone told me we can stay up to six months. Just wondering if anyone out there has gone for an extended time with kids? I did a search and nothing turned up and the Kids to Go branch doesn't appear to be here anymore.
My husband is a pilot and would commute to work in Toronto. We could base out of different locations Havana, Trinidad, Vinales etc. and the kids and I could take Spanish lessons, dance lessons and home school. They will be 6 and 8. Any advice on good Spanish schools that would be kid friendly? Or anthing else? I am not sure how easy it would be rent something for a month in these places. Ideally a casa particular with a separate small building for us if those exist (likely not in Havana).

2Renting out a casa long term should be no problem - I and many on this forum have done just that. Casa owners would love that too as it excludes the extra work finding new clients or ending up with no clients.
Best to find a casa suitable for your needs in person and a better rate can be had I found when one stays longer than 2 weeks and certainly for a month's stay +.
I have seen separate buildings for rent on the landlord's property in Havana, Cienfuegos and Santa Clara. However this is not the norm.
The longer you can invest in beating-the path-on-the-ground the more apt you are to find something.
It took a while but I did find a lovely casa that was serene, with a man-made natural stone grotto pool and waterfalls, luscious grape vine with gigantic trellis, , my own kitchen almost fully equiped, exotic lush plants potted and hanging with sphagnum moss in my private patio, outdoor BBQ, close to city centre and the baseball stadium, walking distance to night-clubs.
Needless to say I return here yearly , keep my 5 steamer-trunks of stuff and bicycle stored in the landlord extra room casa year-round.
I cannot advise you about getting foreign kids into a local school. Kids learn a language on the street - no ?
