One day in Dubai?Hi all,
We're stopping in Dubai overnight on our way to London from Melbourne, to break up the flight with our toddler.
We will have maybe a morning in Dubai as we arrive late the night before, does anyone have any suggestions on what to do? We haven't booked accommodation yet.
Alternatively, I might be convinced to extend our trip by a day, but that will cut our Europe trip short.

1If you have one morning free in Dubai, you might want to go to Dubai Mall, have a look at the Dubai Aquarium and go up to the observation deck of the Burj Khalifa. If you do decide to go to the Burj Khalifa, buy the tickets online in advance (the cost is 100 Dirhams, as opposed to 400 Dirhams if you just turn up and buy a ticket). There is also the Dubai Fountain next to Dubai Mall - most people go to see the fountain show in the evening, but I think they also have shows around lunchtime.
If you choose to extend by a day, there are plenty of other things you could do.
In terms of accommodation, I would suggest you look for somewhere between the airport and Dubai Mall. You might see hotels advertised in places like Al Barsha or the Marina, but for one night I don't think it's worth staying that far away from the airport.

2Thanks Matt, I've just extended so we have one full day now. suggestions are welcome. Not sure I want to shop as much as see the sights, but the aquarium might be good for our son.
I've just started looking at accom on tripadvisor, found a place near old Dubai?

3You're welcome. Some other things you could consider doing while you're there:
- Take a look around the old part of Dubai, near the Creek. There is a museum, gallery, souqs, and you can take an abra across the Creek from Bur Dubai to Deira side. It's interesting to see the contrast between this traditional area and the newer areas like Burj Khalifa.
- Visit Jumeirah Mosque.
- Go to Wild Wadi waterpark (if your toddler would like that).
- Go to Madinat Jumeirah - it's nice to eat in one of the restaurants or cafes there, with a view of the Burj Al Arab.
There is also a Big Bus Tour, which you could consider as a way to get between the different places - http://www.bigbustours.com/eng/dubai/custompage.aspx?id=dubai_sightseeing_tour&gclid=
Otherwise, it's easy enough to get around using the Metro and taxis.
A place to stay near old Dubai is probably in Deira or Bur Dubai, close to the Creek. The quality of the hotels in this area is quite variable. You'll probably be able to get a good idea by checking the reviews online though. Which hotel are you considering?

4Hi Matt, thanks again for great ideas.
I have booked a hotel in bur Dubai - Arabian courtyard? I used tripadvisor to choose it.
I am looking forward to our trip now!

5You chose a nice hotel. And the location is good also, right in the heart of Bur Dubai. It's about a 5 minute walk to the nearest Metro station, Al Fahidi.
Have a great trip!
