Getting to Sambodromo - need to buy transport in advance?
I want to thank to all the people that have replied to my posts. I've received great information.I need some more advise. I've decided to attend the "Entry Group" parades on the Sambodromo (Feb-9). I'm using the www.rio-carnival.net web site to buy tickets
However I want to know if it's worth to buy the transportation this site offers or it's a better deal to arrange transportation on my own that night?
I will be staying at the Sao Conrado area.
Thanks a lot in advance
Obrigado!

You can take the metro. But if you are in Sao Conrado, you're going to have to get to the Ipanema metro stop by taxi or bus. So I guess it depends if you want to spend a lot of money on the ticket middle-man's convenient but relatively expensive transport. How often does their transport run, both going to the event, but more importantly when you want to leave? Is it easy to find in the big crowds leaving?Different metro stops, depending if your tickets are for even or odd sectors.
Directions:
Odd sector seats: get off at Central station
From there, walk to the Sambódromo, a long stretch of approximately 700 meters, going past the schools’ allegorical cars and the Terreirão do Samba.
Even sector seats: get off at Praca Onze/XI station
Once outside the station, turn twice to your right and then walk straight ahead to Sector 2. For
Sectors 4 and 6, turn on Rua Carmo Neto and walk on to Av. Salvador de Sá. The Sambódromo can soon be seen and several signs show the entrance to the sectors.

Just take the metro bus in São Conrado... it will leave on General Osorio´s Station (Ipanema). Like said above, you can get out on Central Station or in Praça XI Station... both are very close to the Sambodrome, however, I think it´s easier to walk from Praça XI than from Central. On the way back, you can do the same... if you wait until morning (the parade goes until 6 AM) it will be easier to get the bus. The transportation you mentioned will be convenient but, for sure, very expensive.
Have you already bought tickets? I would say to buy it in Rio... the "Entry Group" don´t "
"sell out" tickets like the Special Group.

On the Access Groups days they are charging:- grandstands: 60 to 124 US
- front box seats: 183 to 237 US
This is the page with all the prices: http://rio-carnival.net/rio_carnival/sambodromo-samba-parade-tickets.php
I am arriving on Feb-5
Obrigado!

You´re going to arrive 4 days before the parade, so I think you should buy the tickets directly! This kind of website loves to overcharge tourists... it should be forbidden! The ticket for the entry group costs TEN REAIS!!!!!!!!!!If by some reason you can´t get tickets, just show up and buy them with scalpers. It still going to be cheaper than the website ticket!

Let me just say something else... with the price they are charging for the "Entry Group" you can buy tickets directly for the "Special Group". The remaining tickets costs from R$ 200 to R$ 320.The problem is that the "Special Group" tickets usually sell out, however, if you can get those, just buy the "Entry Group" like you were already going to do.
You can buy them at the Sombodrome, or here:
Rua da Alfândega, 25 - Stores B and C
Centro

Hi Inacio - thank you so much for your help. Actually I did get the tickets as you suggested. For the "entry group" I paid 400 reals for the whole frisa so I was able to split with other people I traveled with. The frisa has 6 seats so it was a pretty good deal, not the rip off at the internet site.
I just returned from Sambodomo. It was an unforgettable experience and even if it was only the "entry group" it was pretty spectacular to me
On the oher hand I did take the metro as you suggested and also the peope at the ticket counter suggested as well. However it was not so covenient since it involved too much walking on a disorienting and frankly ugly neighbourhood. But I was able to get a taxi to come back to Sao Conrado for a fraction of what I would have paid at the internet site.
Thanks gain for all your help I've been having a great time in Rio.
