1On the Samaipata side you can reach some cloudforest sections of the park (in the hills). I've been there on my own.
For the tropical valleys of the park you need to go to Buena Vista. It is possible to camp, yes, but normally all tousits go with a guide or an agency.

3I actually walked from Samaipata to a section of forest high up in the park. Sorry, I'm not home, so I can't check in my notes for the name of the place. There is a small village on the way where there is accomodation. I was absolutely alone.
From Buena Vista, I joined a 2-day agency tour for the tropical section.
