China 72 hour transit visa

Hi all,

I'm trying to get my head around China's new 72 hour visa rules.

If I fly into Beijing : get the 72 hour stamp, do I then have to leave the country from Beijing airport, or can I fly out via another Chinese airport ( as long as I'm out of the country within the 72 hours ) ?

Beijing to Hong Kong is about 70 pounds cheaper with a stop over in Shanghai.

And how far out of Beijing can you get?

Thanks for any help,

For a transit you can only stop in that city. If your flight makes another transit stop in China then you fall under the 24-hour exemption. Not only your next stop has to be another country, it has to be a third country. So you could not do HK-Beijing-HK.
"How far out of Beijing can you get?" - you cannot leave Beijing.

You need to stay with the province of Beijing, and you can not travel further from another city, you need to return to PEK and fly out from there, to another country, outside of China, which Hong Kong would be fine.

Although Beijng is not a province, the municipality is quite large and there's plenty to do within its boundaries.

Keep you stopover simple and you'll enjoy it more than trying to work the system.
