North Vietnam - when to travel

I know there is a lot of information regarding when to go to Vietnam but some of it is confusing from one site to another. Looking to go only to the Hanoi/ Sa Pa etc. area so want to go at the best time for trekking. Is April okay? Thanks for any feedback.

im still in SA PA at moment, did Fansipan treck 2 days ago. sky was clear, and its not so cold to sleep in sleeping bag at 2800 metres. today is foggy, and u cant see Fansipan from Sa Pa..

i think now its good time for to do this treck, just take attention in weather broadcast. little bit wet and slip near the peak, but most of the way to the top is dry and easy walking.

godd luck

In general, Sapa is the best place to go trekking all year round. However, trekking in winter may limit your view to mountain and landscape. The weather in April is still cool and sometines it rains lightly. My suggestion is that you should trek in September, especial middle of Sep till the beginning of Oct as the weather in this time is very fine. And one more point is that you will see yellow rice in the paddy fields in the harvest of the local. It is very stunning and spectacular. If you need more information about this area, sms me.

April is fine but sometimes it will limit your sights due to light rain and fog. The best time of the year falls into middle of Sep till beginning of Oct. You will see rice turn into yellow in the harvest of the local. It is very stunning and spectacular.

We just spent some time in Sapa the end of March 2012 and the weather was a little cool with broken cloud and some morning fog in the valleys. The temperatures were about 19c during the day and about 14c at night.
It was clearly evident that it had been raining just prior to our arrival as it was quite muddy in some places.
I gather from talking to long time travellers there that the weather can vary a great deal no matter when you go and just be prepared.

Mar or April is a good time to see Sapa. Sapa is a beuatiful place in North Vietnam or you travel on Sep to see ripe rice terrace

Other parts in North Vietnam you can visit from Apr to Oct is ok

In April, the Sapa as well as Norhtern Vietnam weather is good. It is the middle of spring so the weather is cool, sunny and clear in Sapa. We highly reccommend you to have trekking tour in Sapa in this time of year. Please PM if you want to have further assistance.
