Sepik (PNG)

Hi!

Does anyone have some information on Sepik river tours? I will be traveling on my own in April and can't believe those extraordinary high prices stated in the LP - like 1000 € for a three days trip with a local guide and a hired boat. Has anyone done a middle Sepik tour recently and can give me some advice? I guess I would have to join a group to make it affordable. Is that easy (i.e. are there enough travelers around in April)? What's the best starting point?

Thanks for any help!

I can also recommend Matthew from Wagu (tell him hello from the Swiss guy that came without a guide, he will know who...). But it is not easy to get to Wagu and also Matthew has to pay the high costs for petrol. It is much cheaper with him than with some others, but that doesn't mean cheap. This word just doesn't exist anymore in PNG... The only cheap way is to try to hitch on the river. But this needs much time as there isn't to much of traffic on the river.

Hello,
Just a suggestion - contact the guide I had, Roni Bowie, +675 73463253 and bear in mind that all the fuel used in that area is carted in by truck in 40 gallon drums. I recall seeing that a drum costs 900 kina, so it is expensive, but perhaps understandably so. Anyway, I posted in October about my trip so you may want to read it. Hope this is helpful, and if you want more info I am happy to help.
cheers
