Huangshan (Yellow Mountain) Hostel QuestionHi,
I'm looking for a hostel to stay in on top of Yellow Mountain (Huangshan) in China. A hostel would be great, and it would be nice to be able to book ahead of time. I've found the Jade Screen Hotel, but wondered if there were any other budget options.

6The Jade Screen Hotel is not a hostel. Price during high season is $275 a night....here in the winter it is $75 a night. The main hotels all have the same cost as they are goverment owned and operated. The price is controlled. There are small hostels up there but may not be clean as you may expect. Just booked the Jade Screen Hotel for a client yesterday since I am a tour operator.

8The hotels at the top have dorm beds which are not nice, not considered a hostel as mentioned. Usually tough to sleep with other guests coming in and out, etc. But you will not be sleeping long anyway, gotta get up early for sunrise. If you have 3 people, the 3-bed rooms in Xihai hotel are sometimes a good deal. Huangshan is a ripoff, don't expect your money to go far at the peak
You should still sleep at the peak. Staying at the base and taking a pre-dawn cable car to the peak is not an option, as the cable cars do not run early enough (nor do the gates open early enough for you to walk up, AND you have to buy 2 tickets to the scenic zone -- one for each day you enter from Tangkou). You can rent a tent in Tangkou for cheaper and still get an OK sleep (summer only)
