North Island in August

What is the weather like in August in the North Island? Would it spoil a 2 week holiday? What kind of activities, sight seeing could we do? Or would we be better saving the visit to a better time of year? Or even going to the South. Thanks

Cool and wet, with snow in parts of the interior (eg Tongariro). You can pretty well do any of the summer activities during the winter if you wanted to, but you just need to dress warmer.

The N Island is definitely more of a summer destination with its beaches and such, whereas the S Island is a better year-round destination with lots to do during the winter.

To get the best out if it i wouldn't recommend a winter visit unless you're here just for skiing.

Sort of what I thought. Neither of us are skiers and it does seem a bit daft going on a winter holiday from England to the Canaries to get some sun and then flying half way across the world to NZ in the summer to the snow! Thank you for your time replying.
