sim card info required

Will be in the US for 11 weeks, Travelling by vehicle to NM,Arizona,Utah,SD a,Wyoming (national parks mainly)
Have an unlocked Andriod smartphone.
Q1, What is the coverage like for phone/data- any preferred companies
Q2 how do I get a decent plan (prefer prepaid) and sim...is it cheaper to buy a phone in US?
Thanks

TMobile is your best bet, you can buy a SIM card with great coverage overall (Limited in remote national parks for all cell service at times), you can pay monthly, and set up on your Credit Card, then cancel when done. Unlimited Text/Talk and a lot of data for most is $50 month. More data add $10, or pay as you use it.

yup..T-mobile.... I use them and buy 1000 minutes and text and it's 100 dollars. In some ways this is a bit expensive, but for me, the importance is that the expiration lasts a year. Guess it all depends on how much calling your going to do. This deal was not for data...then like them all, its 50 bucks a in general

I am a US resident but don't spend so much time there. T-Mobile also has pay-as-you-go plans for $1 or for $2 a day. With the latter you get unlimited talk and text, but the internet speed is not so hot.

T-Mobile does not have the best coverage, but uses sim-card technology. So does ATT, and you may want to compare the two.

I travel all over the USA for work, and have TMobile, it even worked in parts of Montana and Wyoming...no carrier is perfect, Verizon is best not possible to go with pay as go plans and phones locked.

You can go with Cricket, but coverage is not so great outside major cities, compared to others, my wifes has a phone and plan for $30 month, unlimted talk/text, and it seems to work everywhere mine has on road trips from Kentucky to California...

Yes, your unlocked Android should be fine, no need to buy a new phone in the US. Wouldn't AT&T be a better choice if she can get data working? (Which apparently can be difficult sometimes, especially with incompetent, lazy or lying AT&T reps.)
