Toraja, guides and recommendations
Before going to Toraja I remember there were questions about guides.i went there and I was lucky to be recommended a serious and knowledgeable guy.
Sorry I do not have his phone here but you can find him in Rantepao.
"Bagus travel", by the football field in Rantepao. His name is Marcus.
It was a good experience. Funerals going on also over the Christmas and New Year (like I had been informed in this forum). (The ceremonies just stop for the very eve of Christmas and New Year)
Toraja seems to have a strong culture.
After this I went to Wamena/Baliem. Few guides over the holidays. The only one I could hook up with was reasonably knowlegable and English ok. But very expensive and maybe not really serious. Slight problems flying out, overbookings and ticket scalping to some extent. Rooms more expensive than in the LP. In my opinion more set for high spending tourism. But still some older men in the city dressing in the gourd. But compared to Toraja not the same "intensity" in culture. Young people have left. But that is only my opinion after short visits to these places.
The famous black mummy is also, in my opinion, after seeing it in real life, probably a fake or at best an artistically enhanced replica, haha ;)
