Lantern Festival

Hi! I will be in China for the Lantern Festival this year on the 24th and I'm just working on putting together a rough itinerary. Does anyone know what city/town is the best place to be in for the festival?? Also, for the lunar new year are Xian/Bejing good places to be?

Thanks!

A tiny town in Sichuan called Xigong is known for it's dinosaurs and its lantern festival. I was there many many years ago and found their lantern festival a little over rated. At the time it was "worth it if you're in the area" but not worth traveling halfway across China to see.

China has changed a lot in the past 2 decades so I can't really say for sure what it's like now, but the dinosaurs are cool either way.

Zigong is not exactly "tiny". Not even by Chinese standards.
It is worth a visit, though - the dinosaur museum is excellent, as is the small salt drilling museum
