HH Denmark - Vietnam via Central Asia

Hej travellers,

So I have this crazy idea to hh from Denmark to Vietnam.

My route would be Denmark, Poland, Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, China, Vietnam.

I have European (Italian) and Canadian passports. From some preliminary research I understand that I need visas for Russia, Kazakhstan, China and Vietnam.

I believe that I can get a visa at the borders of Kazkhstan and Vietnam (please confirm??) And will need to get the advance visa for Russia and China before leaving the EU. Does anyone have experience with one of those companies that get the visas for you? There's alot of companies listed online and I'd rather not get scammed.

Also, does anyone have any experience/advice for a girl hh'ing this route?

Thanks!

You cannot get Kazakh or Vietnamese visas at borders, but both visas will be relatively easy to get on the road. The major obstacle will be getting the Chinese visa in Central Asia. A lot of questions and advice concerning Chinese visas has recently been posted on the China branch. Check it out. Apply for the Russian visa in your home country.

You'll need to be one tough lady to hitch through Russia and Kazakstan. Women standing on the side of the road are likely to be viewed as prostitutes. The last thing you'd want is a bunch of drunk Kazakhs offering you a ride in the middle of the steppe.

Agreed. The Kazakh and Vietnamese visas must be arranged in advance.

Chinese visas are possible almost everywhere in Central Asia, but it's a serious headache almost everywhere as well. Kyrgyzstan is the least trouble for now.

About hitchhiking, I've heard about women who do it solo, but of course, there is a big risk of rape. I'm 100% sure you will get into conflict situations, just depends on how good you are with them/how big your comfort zone is (I expect pretty big!).

If you haven't look at it already. Look up hitchwiki.com. It has most things you need to know about hitch hiking that route. How easy or hard it is to get a ride in each country tips for each city, town on where to HH from.

Being female you will not have to wait long compared to a male HH, which is a bonus.
