Osaka to Kagoshima

Hi,

I'm wanting to travel from Osaka to Kagoshima using the JR train pass. Just wondering how many trains I will need to get.

I think I need to go from Osaka to Hakata then change train and go from Hakata to Kagoshima. Is this correct? And is this all covered on the JR pass?

Thanks,
Mark

Depends where in Osaka and where in Kagoshima but there are a number of direct Sakura Shinkansen which go from Shin-Osaka Station to Kagoshima-Chuo Station without a transfer required.

No.

Mizuho and Nozomi Shinkansen are not covered but all others are.

Just search using Hyperdia. untick "Airplane" and "Mizuho/Nozomi" and it will show you. There are around 20 direct Sakura Shinkansen per day.

Just one, take Sakura. About 4 hours. JR Pass isn't valid on faster Mizuho (saving 20 min), but since there are far more Sakuras than Mizuhos, it doesn't really matter. You leave from Shin Osaka and arrive at Kagoshima chuo.
