Hiking in Corcovado National Park
HiWe are a couple who want to hike the trail from Los Patos to Sirena in the Corcovado National Park, starting from Los Patos and maybe staying at Sirena 1 night and returning back to Los Patos.
Can we do this on our own or is it difficult without a guide? Any advice and suggestions welcome! Thanks!

This will be one very difficult hike and 2 days of very long and hard hiking, 6-8 each day. I suggest you do the Loop, and exit to La Leona, then get the last Collectivo from Carate to Pt Jimenez. As the Sirena to La leona hike is much easier, flatter, and less time, though you need to time the river crossing with the tides. If not, then I would go to Drake Bay, and get a boat as a day trip to San Pedrillo, or Sirena, or overnight there and return. You will be killing yourself with your current plan, promise.

The Corcovado Guide link posted above offers some good starting information for Corcovado park. However, the owner of the site is no longer updating the pages, and there are several informations that are out of date and wrong. Please do yourself a favor and double check any information that you find on that page.It is very rare for people to hike both in and out of Los Patos. Most people will either hike in and out from La Leona, or in from Los Patos and then out from La Leona. This is because the hike from Sirena to Los Patos tends towards the uphill, and also because the forest is very dense and without any breeze making it a challenging hike in either direction.
The La Leona trail offers off shore breezes and also excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing.
Because the hike in and out is very strenuous, and your focus is really on getting to your destination before sunset, most people choose to do a three day two night expedition. The middle day is spent exploring the trails around Sirena.
I hope this helps,
Pura Vida,
Ballardo
