Easter in Panama City

My boyfriend and I will be flying to Managua via Panama City for Easter, and have the option of a very quick stopover in Panama City en route to Managua (for the same flight price as going straight to Managua)

Basically we'd be arriving early evening on Maundy Thursday, and then flying out again to Managua at noon on Good Friday. We know we may only have time for dinner and quick wander around and don't plan on being able to do too much, but we thought it might be nice to check out the city even if it's a quick visit.

Would many of the shops and restaurants have shut by the Thursday evening? Would a taxi to the airport be easy to find on Good Friday, or is it too much hassle for so little time?

Thank you!

You will be able to get a taxi and enough restaurants will be open that you shouldn't have a problem. The nice thing is the city will be relatively empty as everybody heads for the interior so traffic will be much less and the construction in the Casco Viejo won't be happening. Actually it would be a great time to stay in the Casco because of all the historical churches there.
