Two absolute must-see's inbetween HCMC and Hanoi???

Hi there :)

Am planning a trip through Vietnam by bus and/or train from HCMC to Hanoi. Due to time constraints I will only really be able to stop off a max of two places for a couple of nights each along the way.... It's a shame I know!! So much I want to see! So I guess what I'm asking, is if you could only visit two places inbetween the two, where would they be??? And why???

Over to you......

Kiki :)

1) Hue

2) Hue

(Only voting for Hue twice to try keep Hue in the running and to avoid you being voted to Nha Trang... :-) )

William.

I'd go for Hoi An and Mui Ne. The river trip in Hue is nice also. If your a diver Nha Trang.

Hoi An, Mui Ne.. why people are telling you to go to Hue.. I've traveled the whole of Vietnam and left Hue after a day absolutely nothing to do or see besides the citadel and DMZ zone which can be done in a morning, not worth spending time there over other places if you have a time limit.

#1 & #2 are spot on. Hue and Hoi An. Agree with #1 give Nha Trang a miss.

For culture Hue and Hoi An for sure, not sure why #8 says there not much to see in Hue, theres enough for at least 3 days, Citadel, Temples, River trip..

I say that because in comparison to the other places I listed I found it the most boring if I'm to give it a label.. No way would you need 3 days! I did everything in a morning, you only need to see the citadel and dmz zone if you must go there the river trip isn't exciting. I've traveled literally the whole of Vietnam and don't recommend Hue if you're pushed for time especially over beautiful Hoi An and the sights you can go to from there (marble mountains etc). I unfortunately believe you will regret going to Hue over the other listed places

You didnt go and see all the Emporers Temples on the Perume River?? I loved that in Hue. But I guess it depends on exactly what the OP wants to see. Definetly Hoi An..

Hue - i felt it was most Vietnamese of all the places we visited. the citadel, the boat ride on the perfume river, all the pagodas - made it lovely.

HoiAn - nice place, but too many tailors hankering for your business.
