Hi Fellow Travelers!
I am planning a trip to Europe in mid-May this year. We are starting in Barcelona and will be there for 4 days. I'm looking for suggestions on things to do and also good places to stay. We really enjoy doing outdoor activities (hiking, biking, sailing, beaches, kayaking, rafting, etc). I started looking at stuff to do in travel books, but it seems that Barcelona has so much history and culture that it's hard to narrow it down to 4 days worth of activities. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. We are also not opposed to going outside of the town for some activities if anyone knows of anything fun. Please let me know what you think!! Thanks in advance!

Hi - www.barcelonayellow.com is a good start.I cannot start to give tips - any online guide or guidebook lists more than enough things to see in 4 days here (which is a very good amount of time). Except for rafting and kayaking, for which you have to drive an hour or 2, everything you list is available here.
Once you have a more detailed list of what you want to do, just come back here and ask - I have plenty of info.

"I started looking at stuff to do in travel books, but it seems that Barcelona has so much history and culture that it's hard to narrow it down to 4 days worth of activities"Not to put too fine a point on it mgoblue but if you can't narrow down which would appeal to you most, how do you expect anyone here to do it for you? All anyone can do here is list the same things as are in your guidebook. At the end of the day, it is YOU that has to make the choices.
On another note, if you are into outdoor activities as listed, why are you going to a city?

Montjuic offers great hike within the city. Getting lost in various alleys in Raval and Barri Gotic are fun too.Visiting some of Gaudi's homes is must stop for those visiting BCN.

Thanks for the advice getyoung, I will definitely look into those areas! travelinstyle: I'm just trying to get some ideas from other people's experiences. I have noticed that a place or activity might make the Top 10 things to do in Barcelona but might actually be more of a hassle/time consuming according to some travelers. We heard Barcelona has amazing beaches and therefore thought we could do some water activities. Any advice is helpful, this is only my 2nd trip to Europe. Thanks!5
You heard wrong for a city Barcelona might have nice beaches but not amazing, Why would you even plan to go to a city when you want to do activities.6
For some of the best chocolates you'll ever taste, try Bubo - Carrer Caputxes, 10 08003 BarcelonaThey also do food and sweets.
One of my all time faves.

Spain has some good beaches, but they are certainly not in Barcelona - they are all artificial. Not that they are bad - they are just regular beaches.Believe it or not, the top 10 is actually worth it. I am personally not into Parc Guell or La sagrada familia, but that is because I am living here. When I came down here first as a tourist, I thought they were amazing.
I think the best thing about the city (as in most cities I like) is to wander around in the old or even new city centre and get lost.

hi there,Parc Guell in Barcelona is a great place to spend a half day wandering around. You should read about the history of it. There are nice trails as well and great views of the city.
Also, the Picasso museum is incredible.
I was in Barceonla in 2009 and loved it. Here is a link to our Barcelona travel blog. Feel free to check it out for additional suggestions.

It's a great city. You'll find plenty to do.
Enjoy!
