Volunteering in Mali ?

At my office they have a new program for employees, that would allow me to take an unpaid vacation for volunteering a month or two for a worthy cause, and return to my job afterwards.
I speak some french, have been in Mali for a two weeks holiday so I know the country already, and I also have basic military training which may be useful at the moment. Does anyone know of any volunteering opportunities in Mali?

I will give you USD 100,-- for the Kalashnikov or Heckler & Koch you want to buy and a search & destroy survival manual.

I didn't mean to work in the military - just thought my old military training might be a useful skill to mention, to deal with very basic levels of comfort and the need for improvisation :-)

In any case, I prefer the Heckler & Koch :-))

Klaush, your fighting with the Sandinistas against Somoza and your fighting against the Sovjets in Afghanistan will be useful and helpful.

The Legion. The Legion. The French Foreign Legion.

Look for the recruitment posters when you land.

That's out of the question, I would never pass their fitness test...
I have a wide range of skills but am not a fighter. Afghanistan happened when I still was a kid.
I learned to drive offroad when I was 14 years old. I can create a website and write copy for a newspaper... install a UNIX system or build a beach house from driftwood. I can swim, dive, ride a horse or go for several days on a bicycle. In my free time, I repair electric appliances in my back yard...
Maybe some NGO needs a multi-purpose assistant who takes care of all the things their doctors or other important staff can't be bothered with?

The revolution wants you, klaush. You will run beach houses, earn cash with the beach houses and the cash you have earned with the beach houses will support the revolution.

Are you following the news from Mali at all?...

Not exactly a tourist/traveller stampede to get in there.....

Anyway, easy enough to google doctors without borders etc. and see if you can be of service. (i.e. have the right qualifications).
I know they have whole departments dealing with the logistics etc.

Just google "NGO" and "Mali"...

Beaches houses in Mali ;-))))

Swimming, diving, riding a horse and building beach condos. All skills that are undoubtedly in high demand in Mali. Klaus, mein Freund, I think you may already have spent a little too much time in the sun, nicht wahr ?
