nice hotel in Usulutan
Wanted to share our hotel find and bus route from El Tunco to Usulutan. We left El Playa Tunco around 9:30 or 10am in the morning on chicken bus 80 heading to El Playa Espino. We changed buses at La Libertad 187 (540 is a direct to Zacatecoluca but it isn't as often as the 187 and we were tired of waiting in the sun), Comalapa (177? not sure but we could have gotten 302 and not had to change in Zacatecoluca) , Zacatecoluca 302 and finally ending up in Usulutan around 4pm. Yep we got a slow bus on one leg that really slowed us down. We decided to stay in Usulutan for the night instead of trying to get to the beach before dark. We couldn't find the hostel that we were looking for (La Posada del Viajero on 6th) and found another place. La Posada de Do Quijote on 1a avenida Sur and 1a Calle Poniente. We got a private room - very clean, pretty large, tv, nice firm bed, writing desk, nightstands, private cold water shower, Wi-Fi and working AC. The coolest part is the HUGE kitchen with a mini gym and a huge wooden dining table. The gym had three big pieces of aerobic equipment. It was $20 and I didn't even barter. A nice lady works there (no English) and it is about 6 or 7 blocks back down 1 (the street the buses came up) from where the autobus 302 from San Salvador drop you off. There is also a super selectivo grocery store about a five minute walk towards the bus drop off on 1. Seeing we have never had AC or a mini gym in the month we have been in Central America, we wanted to share. We might just decide to do the beach as day trip instead staying there. Telephone for La Posada de Don Quijote is 503-2662-1156. Happy travels everyone.1
Thanks for the report! Usulutan is not a destination in of itself - maybe on the way to El Espino beach or if you cannot make it to San Miguel further east. It could also be a springboard for Alegria, or even to climb the Usulutan volcano (but I don't know of anyone who climbs that particular volcano)2
It was getting dark and we didn´t want to go further. We just did a day trip to Espino. Luckily it was low tide and the beach was beautiful. We were told that in high tide, there is not a lot of beach. We wanted to stay in Playa Espino for the night but was glad we didn´t. Not a lot going on there and the hotel in Usulutan was cheaper and nicer.
