Late night arrival - Foz do Iguacu (Safety advise)

I'm flying into Foz do Iguacu and ariving quite late (around 1am), and I'm planning rent a car in the airport. I will stay in a hotel in the center of town

My wife is concerned about safety. However I was there about 15 years ago and I don't remember Foz looking like a dangerous place.

Can anyone give me some advise if it would be dangerous to do this?

Thanks a lot in advance

There's a rental company that will have staff at the airport at 1am? That would surprise me.
If so, would the car come with GPS? The road from the airport to the town seemed pretty straightforward, but I remember the town itself being confusing at first to find my way around. I wouldn't want to be wandering around lost anywhere in Brazil at that hour.
IMO one should be vigilant at all times anywhere in Brazil.

Hertz at the airport is open 24/7

Thank you very much for your response

While Foz is not as violent as other big cities in Brazil, remember it's a frontier city (you're from Mexico, so you probably know what I mean). Most probably you won't have any problem, but if you get lost at 1 am you never know...
