Lima and area in Feb- suggestions in a rainy season?

I am traveling to Peru in Feb, have been considering Machu Picchu however more interested in doing some hiking. Have thought about going to Colca Canyon to do a 3 day hike. My question, is the weather too rainy to do hiking in the canyon? Any other areas I can visit close to Lima for a few days that has worthwhile scenery and/or hiking? I am thinking I may return someday to do MP when the weather is nicer so not 100% set on Cusco. Considering flights and prices, I would like a cheaper option. I am flying from Canada to Lima, then leaving a day later to go to Easter Island. I was thinking it would be a shame if I didn't spend a few days in Peru on my return instead of flying straight to Buenos Aires.
Any suggestions on cool places to go for less than a week would be greatly appreciated!!
