All the forms we completed were from the boat company, including the non-disclosure agreement. The payment for the boat was also charged directly from the boat company. From what we understand it is the boat company that dictates the walk-on price, if there is any additional discount it would be because the travel agent kicks in some of their commission, which they receive from the boat company, to get the booking. Anyway, right or wrong thats what we've gleaned from the experience. We're just excited to get underway!!!
This is pretty much exactly our experience with Canalfun. It's not the agency that wants to keep the prices quiet, it's the cruise companies (no doubt to prevent disquiet amongst the others on your ship who booked directly through them and/or well in advance and who paid more!)

16See what gets me is I could ask for a price from them, surely they give you a price before making you sign a NDA :-)
So one could easily get the price from them. I can understand the NDA though regarding other passengers. That said it happens all the time everywhere. the closer you can book to the source the better you are. A recent bus trip i took cost me $8. Others on the bus paid $10 and others as low as $5.
Regarding Antarctica, I'm on many mailing lists and I have seen prices as low as $3000 for the standard trip. That is without turning up and waiting in Ushuaia. Actually I once saw 2 for 1 deal and the cheapest berths were $5400, making that $2700 each. Usually though if you get something under $5000 thats a good price and $3500-$4000 is fairly common.

17I went a couple of years back and booked a last minute deal with a company in Australia called Aurora Expeditions. They have a great little ship called polar pioneer that only has about 50 people so we spent lots of time on shore. Their staff were brilliant also. If your lucky they might have some space left this season at a good rate. Check out their website. Good luck, Antarctica is such a magical place - you won't be disappointed!
