Takkyubin for 2 skis/boots
Hey guys and gals,We land in Narita around 4pm, and are spending our first 4 days in Kyoto/Takayama. We found it will cost us almost $100 (9000 yen) each to rent skis for 2 days once we arrive in Hakuba. Am I right to think Takkyubin might be cheaper and easier by sending our own persoanl gear directly to our B&B after landing while we holiday, then when done skiing, send it directly back to Narita while we finish up in Tokyo for 3 last days? Im not sure how the holding times work or complete costs.
Any added info would help me steer towards a plan to get around Japan with or without the ski gear.
Oh, btw...we have already purchased our JR Pass.
Thanks!

Should be around 1500-2000 yen each way per bag. There are a few counters at Narita. You can specify what day you want them delivered up to a week after drop off date. To send them back to the airport they have to be sent two days in advance but that seems fine given your question.http://www.narita-airport.jp/en/guide/service/list/svc_05.html

well, I'm not an advanced skier so perhaps my opinion is moot, but considering size/weight restrictions, that you'll probably have to pay an additional baggage fee to United Air, and that you're only skiing for 2 days (and really have no idea what the ski conditions will be, whether they'll warrant your advanced equipment...)if you were spending a week or more on the slopes it might be different, but only 2 days?!? If I were traveling from Tokyo to Hakuba I'd rent for two days, cannot imagine bringing skis from Canada for two days skiing in Japan.

Well, we would only bring them if if was included in our second free bag we are allowed (pending on weight)...and we wouldnt lug them around with us, it would be sent to our B&B directly from Narita, then directly back to our Tokyo hotel, and conditions dont mean anything generally speaking. But yes, at the moment, we will be using takkyubin for our boots only and pay the $100 each to rent....not cheap;)ps...us Canadians treat skiing a bit different lol.
